I love being a second shooter for other wedding photographers. Don’t get me wrong – I love being THE photographer at a wedding. But I love the more the merrier philosophy. I also try my best to stay out of the way of the main photographer. Some of my basic rules – some of which I learned the hard way:

  1. Don’t shoot over the shoulder of the main photographer – they don’t need more of the same shot
  2. Don’t interrupt the flow of the main photographer
  3. A fly on the wall uses a different lens than the main photographer – if they grab a wide angle lens then grab a telephoto lens
  4. If they ask you to do something – do it!
  5. Ask the main photographer if you can try something different – like shoot an HDR

These photographs were taken at a Wolf Creek wedding this summer – and I was using my second camera to take these. My primary camera was sitting on a tripod for some HDR photographs. I will share those in another blog post. The main photographer was shooting with her fisheye lens – so I had my telephoto camera and was grabbing these amazing photographs.

This ain’t no Guitar HeroTuesday, December 22nd, 2009

It is sad when people think that they are great guitar players just because they are good at Guitar Hero or Rock Band – they forget it is just a video game. But there are still a few people out there that play real guitars and they can always find a gig to play at wedding receptions and wedding ceremonies.

Sometimes an iPod isn’t enough – and real musicians in the flesh will help provide the atmosphere that iPods, records and video games can’t capture.

I wonder if they will ever come out with a wedding themed video game – I hope not. lol

Wedding Cake with FlowersSunday, December 20th, 2009

Ok, I will confess – I can sort of understand why people might use a stunt cake – or a fake cake? Why would you eat something or cut a cake that is more a work of art than a wedding confection? This wedding cake was photographed at Wolf Creek – and the cake was in fact real. I am told it was tasty. But my job is to photograph the heck out of the cake and make it look awesome. To do that you want a gorgeous cake – and then the rest of my job is done – lol.

Wedding Cake with Flowers

You can't cut a cake like this and eat it! It is a work of art.
