Visiting Ogden on a PhotowalkMonday, March 29th, 2010

I was in Ogden on Saturday to meet up with about 70+ photographers. We met up at the historic Union Station which is now a museum for trains, trains and more trains. If you are even a beginner photographer check out the Photowalking Utah website.

And I was the person charged with taking the group photograph. And so I created an HDR image here! I think that is a first for Photowalking Utah.

Photowalks are a chance to meet other photographers and talk technique, equipment, and even make new friends. It is also a great chance to scout locations to photograph. And downtown Ogden is really a remarkable location. And the train museum as well. I can see using the location for some engagement photographs and maybe even some bridals. Who wouldn’t think a bride on top of a train would be a cool image. That would rock!

And while I was photographing someone photographed me! So here is a picture of me in action.

Annoucing Utah Wedding ArtsWednesday, March 3rd, 2010

A while back I met with Melissa Kelsey and Nick Sokoloff (both excellent wedding and portrait photographers in Utah) and talked about the opportunity to be an Associate Photograph for a new venture they are starting called Utah Wedding Arts. And I said yes – I think will be be a great opportunity to photograph some amazing weddings.

Utah Wedding Arts is a seperate venture from dav.d wedding photography – I will run dav.d wedding photography where I manage my own weddings, engagements, and bridal photography. That is my business – and I retain all creative and business control over it – its my baby!

Utah Wedding Arts will occasionally have weddings that they need help with or where they need another photographer – that is when I show up and take some amazing photographs and then hand the digital files over to Utah Wedding Arts. They will edit the photographs and sell the prints, albums, and more. They will also do all the marketing for Utah Wedding Arts. I will of course help out best I can in marketing the new business.

This is perfect for me I think – I love working with other photographers and I think this will give me more opportunity to second shoot.

So check out the new website – it is still being developed the blog is getting set up and soon should be moving ahead full steam.

Bridal Shower CupcakesFriday, February 26th, 2010

Last night I dropped by a bridal shower to photograph some of the details for a local Salt Lake magazine. They wanted a few people shots and some detail shots. So today I share a cupcake photograph from Mini’s Retro Cafe – these look so good! Maybe I can see why some people have cupcakes at weddings.

A Crazy Week at Sundance Film FestivalTuesday, January 26th, 2010

I haven’t had a lot of time for blogging and working on my marketing for dav.d wedding photography. I have been photographing for a documentary that is featured at the Sundance Film Festival. It is a controversial movie – but one that I think everyone show see. I even have film credits.

It is suggested that I remain neutral in any kind of political discussion if I am ever to become a popular wedding photographer. But I also think I am an artist and artists are a bit uncoventional. If you want you can read a little bit about the documentary on my other website.

But here are some non-controversial photographs of the Egyptian Theater in Park City and a rather cool twilight photograph of Main Street.

Fight the inversion and have a fun photo shoot just for funSaturday, January 16th, 2010

For about a week or two the Wasatch front has been blanketed in an inversion – aka smog. And it sucks! It isn’t good to breath and it is so thick sometimes you can’t even see the mountains. And it gets so thick that you can almost look at the sun – which isn’t recommended – you can still go blind.

But rather than moping around and watching TV it is important to go be busy and do things. So I escaped the house and took a break from reading Quickbooks for Dummies and I had a fun photo shoot with Steph and her friend Brady. We invaded the Salt Lake Library and photographed outside for the most part – braving the cold.

These are not engagement photos – they are just friends. These are just BFFs hanging out being cool, hip, and groovy. It was also a chance to use my portable Lastolite softbox which I love. In the first photograph I airbrushed out the softbox – it is giving them light in what would be a very dark parking garage.

I am hoping the weather warms up and that the inversion clears – I think we need a real good storm to get us out of it. But it is fun getting out and photographing – even in winter.
