A bride is escorted during the wedding procession

A bride is escorted during the wedding procession

The month of July has been busy! I was grateful for the opportunity to second shoot with Heidi and Tim of Retrospect Studios. One way to develop a portfolio of wedding photography is to shoot for other photographers. And I get the opportunity to blog about different weddings and such – so a lot of my portfolio this year has come from shooting as a second photographer.

And fortunately I was able to photograph at La Caille for this wedding. It is absolutely gorgeous there – the landscaping, the fact that they have peacocks running wild and the french style to the buildings. It just goes to show that good photographers have a background in everything! Landscape, macro, portraiture, bridals, engagements, sports, and more. Wedding photography requires all of this.

And then after the wedding is over there is the editing of photos – hooray for fast computers and Photoshop! It helps make a great photograph a fantastic photograph.

Wedding Cake Photograph Created with HDR

Wedding Cake Photograph Created with HDR

I love real wedding cakes – I understand the economics of having a “stunt cake” or a fake cake where only part of the cake is real for the cake cutting ceremony. However, real cake is so much more tasty.

This cake was a carrot cake covered with real blueberries, strawberries, and currants. It was a little tricky to photograph – it was so dark and backlit. I photographed it several ways – with an off camera flash, with natural light, from outside looking in. This particular photograph was stitched together from 9 exposures and put together using HDR (High Dynamic Range).

I then edited the photograph to have a more film look – digital looks to perfect sometimes – and imitating film gives things a unique look.

Those Magic Intimate Wedding Moments Captured on a Photograph

One of my favorite wedding photographs I have taken… this is at the Lion House near the Salt Lake City Temple.  This photograph is directed – not posed.  I asked the bride and groom to get close and then I ran up the stairs and took several shots till I captured the one that made the moment.
