Calling any married brides who want some photographyTuesday, December 15th, 2009

An idle mind is the devil’s playground. I don’t know what an idle photographer’s playground would be, however, I would love to be busy photographing some brides who are already married to help build my portfolio. I know it is freezing outside – but if you want to brave the elements – even for half an hour I would love to photograph you in downtown Salt Lake City or in Provo or any “metropolitan area” in Utah.

I want to use the photographs on my website and my blog to help promote my business. And if you are already married your photography will be free in exchange for your time. If you are shopping for a wedding photographer let me know – I am looking for bridals and weddings to photograph.

Umbrellas decorate the wedding ceremony at Rose Sachs

Umbrellas decorate the wedding ceremony at Rose Sachs

I learned man years ago from Boy Scouts – “Thou shalt be prepared!” Sunday I had the chance to photograph a wedding with Stacy from Three Winks Studios. We came bundled in coats and layers. We even had plastic bags to protect the cameras, lenses, and equipment.

And it was overcast and rainy all day. The wedding back up plan was to move the ceremony to a tent to shield people from the elements. And the decision was made that the wedding ceremony would indeed be outside in the grassy area overlooking the valley. And in spite of the rain it was gorgeous setting.

And to be honest – rain will make this wedding memorable. The bride and the groom will remember the dozens of family and friend who braved the rain and the cold to watch their love be sealed in marriage. I will never forget the wedding – that is for sure. And Rose Sachs is an absolutely gorgeous location for weddings. I hope I can photograph there again!

And to other photographers – be prepared! And I recommend using plastic garbage bags – I just poke a hole in the bottom of the bag to give the camera lens a spot to see through. And there is no shame in using plastic bags – you don’t want your equipment to malfunction in bad weather.

Chocolate fountains make wedding receptions betterFriday, October 2nd, 2009

Father and son and the chocolate fountain

Father and son and the chocolate fountain

At a recent Salt Lake wedding reception there was the greatest invention ever! Chocolate fountains make everything better. And if there are children at the wedding reception you know how to keep their attention – chocolate covered everything. Just be sure to have some napkins.

And the next photograph that I took is pretty cool. With the lens I used the eyes and the grapes are in focus and everything else blurs out. That is what happens when you photograph with a very shallow depth of field.

And I know everyone spent a few extra days in the gym after this wedding reception – even with fruit – all because of a chocolate fountain. lol
