A bird’s eye view as a second shooterThursday, December 31st, 2009

Being a second shooter at a wedding can be a lot of fun. There is a lot more latitude giving to a second shooter to take risks and try different points of view for a particular photograph. At some locations – my My Noah’s in South Jordon – there is a balcony that allows a bird’s eye view of the wedding hall. And I was able to snap this photograph above of the bride and groom as they were just married.

And I love the shape of the light from the windows and the parquet floor.

And today is New Year’s Eve! And here I am blogging… I need to get a life! But I am excited for the New Year – looking forward to the opportunities as they unfold.

Wedding Cake WednesdayWednesday, December 30th, 2009

I was flipping through wedding photographs through the past year and I rediscovered a wedding cake from a wedding at My Noah’s. Maybe at a later date I will post a blog post which shows the cake being assembled.

But I have been thinking how weddings are a huge team effort – and the team may not realize they are part of the team. Everyone works independently – and the photographers usually take credit. The florists should get credit for amazing floral arrangements and bouquets, bakers and cake decorators should get credit for the wedding cake creations. And then there are the wedding dresses, the location and much more.

And the photographer takes amazing pictures – often with the attitude that the wedding couldn’t happen without the photographer. I don’t want that kind of ego. However, this was a gorgeous cake.

Groom Plays Pool for a Wedding PhotographThursday, September 24th, 2009

The groom plays pool for a very cool group photograph with the groomsmen

The groom plays pool for a very cool group photograph with the groomsmen

Noah’s is a popular event center and from the outside you wouldn’t think wedding center. But on the inside it is a very cool location. Any Salt Lake City wedding photographer would have a blast photographing there.

I had the chance to photograph the groom and groomsmen – and we only had about 10 minutes to do so. So we invaded the game room and took a few group photos before the wedding ceremony.

My favorite shots had the groom playing pool while the rest of the groomsmen watched from the sideline. There were so many groomsmen we didn’t have a lot of room – but we made it work. We were able to get them all around the pool table. I used of camera flash to light the group. Helps add dimension to the photograph.
