Utah Photographers take a tour of Kiss Wedding Books

Utah Photographers take a tour of Kiss Wedding Books

Yesterday I had to opportunity with fellow Utah wedding photographers to tour the Kiss Wedding Books manufacturing plant. All Kiss albums are printed, bound and shipping from Salt Lake City, Utah. And the quality and the attention to detail was just amazing! From now on I will only be offering Kiss books in my wedding photography business.

It was noted that there is the chance for a generation of photographs to be lost because people store their photos on their computers or on the internet. Although seeing photographs online is convenient – if your computer crashes or a website goes out of business your photographs could be lost forever. What better way to enjoy your photographs – your memories – than in a fine crafted book? Books are timeless and can be shared for generations.

Kiss wedding books are assembled and crafted by hand. There are constant quality checks to make sure the photos are color accurate that there is no dust or particles trapped in the paper. They have a check list that goes with every wedding album to make sure nothing is overlooked or nothing gets through without constant supervision.

Some of the equipment is high tech- some of the printing and the binding. And then there are some old time presses that have technology centuries old:

Currently Kiss Wedding Books are available in leather only. They are going to be announcing or releasing Soft Kisses – albums that are linen cover. They will be printed on the same quality photographic paper. Very exciting – and the photographs always look better than press printed books.

Other wedding albums can overwhelm brides and photographers with options. Kiss Wedding Albums are simple and elegant. I will be working on designing some sample albums so I can show them off. And of course I will have to get one in each color – even pink. Mmmmm, pink!

Kiss Wedding Albums have been selling the same book for years. They are constantly looking and improving the binding, printing and creation techniques. And the customers love them! The return rate on books is less than 1% which is outstanding and virtually unheard of in other industries.

If you are familiar with printing – you know about “safe zones” and “bleed” areas. I am able to design one album in 10″ by 10″ and I can have Kiss Wedding Books print that design as a 4×4, 8×8, 10×10, and 12×12. So if you want to upgrade your album to a larger size or you want to buy a second smaller albums for your mom – you can! And we don’t have to worry about redesigning anything.

Trimming the paper edges

Precision trimming is helping photographers keep most of their design in the book rather than trimmed away and discarded. Hooray for technology.

And shipping is a huge issue for wedding albums. Who wants to see quality albums destroyed by evil UPS minions? No one. So the package for Kiss’s albums is top notch. They have tested the package by throwing them off bridges and the books escape unharmed.

And the following photograph is the “Stack of Shame.” These are albums that had a flaw detected during the creation process. These books are left in a stack as a reminder of quality control. And from what I was told with the new techniques this stack is a lot smaller than it was in the past. And that is really cool to know that a company pays so much attention to detail and quality. I am excited to work with them to provide brides the best wedding albums to showcase their weddings’ memories for generations to come.

A candid moment

A candid moment

The bride and groom had just signed the wedding certificate. Before they were to go down and join the wedding party below they stopped for a kiss – and I was able to capture this moment. Thank god for long camera lenses. As a photographer it pays to be a fly on the wall – just watch things unfold and capture the moment.

Sunset glows on the wedding couple

Sunset glows on the wedding couple

Photographers often avoid any kind of flare in their photography – and usually for good reason. But in this case the sun beams and the flare is so awesome. The golden sunlight catches the groom and bride in a kiss.

I was a second photographer for this wedding and I was so lucky to work with Heidi of Retrospect Studios. I love photographing with fellow photographers.

Photo of Amanda and Ben

One of the first weddings I had the chance to photograph was Amanda and Ben. They were married in the Salt Lake Temple and the weather was perfect. Should photos be posed or natural? Can’t they be a mix of both?

I don’t want to tell couples how to pose – but I will give direction and then let the bride and groom be themselves. I will suggest things like kiss them on the hand, whisper into their ear or hold hands and walk this way.
