Who Says Grooms Can’t Carry Wedding Bouquets?Friday, January 22nd, 2010

Ok, ok, this groom is being quite the gentleman and is holding his new bride’s wedding bouquet. I had to take the photograph because I thought it looked hilarious – and the groom played along perfectly. Candid moments like this are fun and make wedding photography unique and quirky.

Why don't more grooms have bouquets?

And some people have argued that wedding bouquets are pointless and just get in the way. You spend more time putting the bouquet some where and having someone hold it for you – but I think they are a critical part of any wedding. And for photography it gives you hands something to hold – it is the perfect prop for any photograph.

Dang flowers get in the way of a cake cuttingTuesday, January 19th, 2010

This photo could be perfect – the bride and groom are cutting the cake – you see their faces – you don’t see the knife… The darn flowers are in the way. I was second shooting at this La Caille wedding – and hopefully the primary photographer had another angle without flowers. The important part is to get the bride and groom’s faces.

What I should have done was to move the flowers off the table before the cake cutting began but I still like this photograph. Not every photograph comes out perfect – but hopefully most photos capture a story.

And the bride isn’t wearing a wedding ring – I zoomed in and didn’t see one. Maybe the main photographer had borrowed the rings for the ring photography.

Photographers can drive themselves nuts looking at the little details. Sometimes while looking at the little detail you miss the big picture.

Don’t forget the Groom and GroomsmenFriday, January 15th, 2010

I will be the first to admit that weddings are all about the bride – brides have spent their lives looking forward and even playing the bride as little kids. The groom? He sometimes just shows up to the wedding – hopefully wearing his suit and tie.

Usually as the second shooter for a wedding it is my job to photograph the groom and the groomsmen – and that is totally cool. When I am the main photographer I will have the chance to focus my camera on the bride and have my second shooter photograph the groom and groomsmen.

I was second shooting Sundance and these were a few of the photos I took. We were under strict orders not to let the bride and groom see each other till the wedding ceremony.

Steal a Kiss at the First DanceWednesday, December 23rd, 2009

During the first dance – be sure to give each other a few kisses – traditionally people kiss at the end of the dance – but why wait? And sometimes people join in during the first dance so just in case the dance floor gets crowded – go for it! Makes the photographer’s job easier ;)

Lots of kissing during formal wedding photographySunday, December 20th, 2009

I was helping second shoot this wedding in Wolf Creek this past summer and the bride and groom were constantly kissing each other. And that is awesome! I think the best photographs at weddings are the natural photographs – where the bride and groom are just naturally touchy feely. Occasionally we would have to ask them to actually look at the camera but only for a few shots.
