Flower petals before the wedding

Flower petals before the wedding

It helps to have a second photographer at a wedding – you have two people trying to photograph everything and everywhere. I am quite the ninja photographer and can try to be everywhere all the time – but I can’t be two places at once. So when you have two people you can be in multiple locations.

As a second photographer I can capture things as simple as basic textures and patterns like these flowers on the cement. It is simple but I love to look at this photo. The texture just speaks to me.

I have also been the second photographer when the main photographer’s camera broke – and they didn’t realize till after the wedding that half their photos were damaged. So I have definitely been some good luck for other photographers. “Bleep happens” and you want to be prepared. A second photographer is insurance.

The flower petals and ring pillow before the wedding

The flower petals and ring pillow before the wedding

Who are the most stressed out people before the wedding? You may think it is the bride, maybe the groom, you might even think it is the the flower girls. (The answer is the bride’s mother). Flower girls have the important job however of scattering flower petals evenly and with the grace of a princess. It seems to be the dream job- without a paycheck.

But as I have photographed flower girls and some flower boys – they are professionals. Granted some forget to drop the flowers – other throw them like baseballs. Others do it in clumps – their job is often the most entertaining during the wedding procession.

And a few might make it a career. I always ask if this is their first time – and some react indignant because they have done this at least once or twice before. And in a way this is the flower girls chance to practice being a bride.
