New Camera Bag – What’s in my Camera BagWednesday, March 2nd, 2011

Camera bags are the purse for photographer – you can’t have too many camera bags. And you have a bag that is unique to every situation and for specific equipment.

Last weekend I bought a new camera bag to protect and hold most all of my main camera gear and I snapped a photo with my iPhone. This case is the Pelican 1650 – it is water tight, crush proof, and rust resistant. It also comes with a lifetime warranty. I won’t be using it when I travel and for many weddings and events this will sit in the trunk or at home and I will use a smaller bag. However, this bag will be used when the gear is at home.

What is in my Pelican 1650 camera bag?

What is in my Pelican 1650 camera bag?

If you are curious the bag contains:

  • Canon 5DII
  • Canon 60D
  • Canon Elan7 film camera
  • Canon G12
  • 24mm TS-E L tilt shift lens
  • 24mm f/1.4 LII
  • 17-40mm f/4 L
  • 50mm f/1.2 L
  • 85mm f/1.2 LII
  • 90mm TS-E tilt shift lens
  • 100mm f/2.8 macro L
  • 70-200 f/2.8 IS
  • 3 Canon 580ex II speedlites
  • 2 Canon 430ex II speedlites
  • 4 PocketWizard FlexTT5s and 1 AC3 Zone Controller
  • 4 PocketWizard Plus2
  • Lensbaby Muse
  • 5 different Lensbaby optics and creative aperture kits
  • Sekonic L-358 light meter

More than a year ago I did the same “What’s in your bag” segment and it was all Nikon gear. Weird how things change in a year!

Maybe next time I will do a “what’s film gear is in my bag?”

Think Tank Airport Security v 2.0

Think Tank Airport Security v 2.0

I have ordered a new camera bag – the Think Tank Photo Airport Security v2.0. It arrives via UPS tomorrow! Anytime I order from amazon.com I always always always get the two-day shipping. It is worth it to me to pay the extra shipping. Cause I dislike the United States Postal Services delivery.

But I am very excited for this camera bag. I think it will replace my old LowePro Roller 2 which is starting to get a bit long in the tooth. I will probably have a full review of the new bag at a later date – and I am excited to use it on my trip out to Newport Beach in March. And there is a chance I will be going out to South Carolina to photograph a remodeled church.

So I want a good solid bag and I am really liking the attention to detail that Think Tank photo puts into their bags.

What’s in Today’s Camera Bag?Thursday, December 10th, 2009

For several years now I have used the Lowepro Fastpack 350 for my day to day use. And I thought it would be fun to open it up today and show you want I happen to be carrying. Usually I have one DSLR – but today I have two. I am taking some headshots this afternoon and I brought along a back up. Any time I am having a professional photo shoot I bring my two camera bodies – the Nikon D300 and Nikon D90. One acts as a back up – you never know if Murphy’s Law will strike and something breaks.

For lenses I packed the Nikkor f/1.4 50mm, the Tamron 28-75mm f/2.8 DI, and Lensbaby Composer. I bring the Lensbaby along just for fun and just for those moments where I want something unique and different. I have one Nikon SB-800 with me – I have more flashes stowed away for the big shoot. Maybe I should do a video sometime where I empty out my camera bag and show the various things – show off my Boy Scout skills of “being prepared.”

Not shown in the bag are my other supporting items: laptop, memory cards, Canon SX200 IS (my point and shoot), cable release, rechargeable AA batteries, camera batteries, lens cleaning cloth, business cards.
