SquareUp iPhone application - great for taking credit card payments

SquareUp iPhone application - great for taking credit card payments

I learned of a really cool service that will allow me to accept credit cards through my iPhone 4 and a little device that connects to the headphone jack. This is totally cool!

So I am signed up and waiting for the device to arrive. And then when I meet with people you can just swipe your card on my iPhone and your wedding is paid for – easy as pie.

Don’t worry – I still accept payments via PayPal, cash, and check. I really like PayPal’s invoice service cause that will arrive in your email address and you can pay with a PayPal account or with a credit card. For those who live out of state it works great.

Hooray for making money!

Learning the business side of photography can definitely be an eye opener – it can also be a lot easier if you can find some photographers in your area who are willing to share their experiences and their practices.

I have been pretty fortunate to meet and associate with some talented and smart photographers and they are all willing to help out. I hope to do the same – I just don’t know if I am worthy yet to be a sage of advice. Maybe someday.

I’ve Got a Facebook Fan Page for dav.d wedding photographyMonday, January 24th, 2011

These days who isn’t on Facebook? I think everyone and their mom has a Facebook page. I have my personal page but I have set up a fan page for dav.d wedding photography. I haven’t been very good at promoting the fan page much like I haven’t been very good at promoting this website. I’m a great photographer but lackluster at marketing. Well, I am working on improving my marketing skills and habits and so I am spreading the word about the fan page.

As I write this blog post I have about 36 fans or should I say people who like dav.d wedding photography. That is really bad compared to my dav.d photography fan page. Much like I have two websites I have two fan pages.

So check it out and become a fan! I will have links to my blog and I do post wedding photos there to the galleries as well. Some people never leave Facebook and so the fan page should be a good thing for them.

Annoucing Utah Wedding ArtsWednesday, March 3rd, 2010

A while back I met with Melissa Kelsey and Nick Sokoloff (both excellent wedding and portrait photographers in Utah) and talked about the opportunity to be an Associate Photograph for a new venture they are starting called Utah Wedding Arts. And I said yes – I think will be be a great opportunity to photograph some amazing weddings.

Utah Wedding Arts is a seperate venture from dav.d wedding photography – I will run dav.d wedding photography where I manage my own weddings, engagements, and bridal photography. That is my business – and I retain all creative and business control over it – its my baby!

Utah Wedding Arts will occasionally have weddings that they need help with or where they need another photographer – that is when I show up and take some amazing photographs and then hand the digital files over to Utah Wedding Arts. They will edit the photographs and sell the prints, albums, and more. They will also do all the marketing for Utah Wedding Arts. I will of course help out best I can in marketing the new business.

This is perfect for me I think – I love working with other photographers and I think this will give me more opportunity to second shoot.

So check out the new website – it is still being developed the blog is getting set up and soon should be moving ahead full steam.

Top Secret Meetings – Here is Some of the ScoopThursday, February 11th, 2010

I am going to be pretty dang coy right now – I am not going to spill all the beans – just some of the beans.

A few weeks ago I was asked to put together some of my best portfolio pieces from weddings and engagements and send them to another photographer. Below is one of the photos that was selected. Someone was interested enough in my skills as a wedding photographer to consider me for some extra work that they may have in the future. And I am very excited.

Is this vague enough? All I will say is Associate Photographer. Cue the music!

And there has been a meeting to talk details and for me things are now cemented and moving forward. More will be announced when there is more cement with other cementees.

It is always cool when people see some skills that I might have. I just have to work on my marketing, branding, and second shooting skills.
