Christmas Eve – and it is beginning to look a lot like zombies…Thursday, December 24th, 2009

Today is Christmas Eve – and I love Christmas Eve. I have been carrying my camera around as the family photographer and capturing the family and the little details of the holidays. My sister Marianne had brought a new Christmas carol to the home – and it is hilarious. “It’s beginning to look a lot like Zombies” Yeah, our family is a little weird – but I like it.

And I have been trying out my film cameras – both the medium format camera and the Holga camera. Everyone thinks I am nuts for trying out and learning how to shoot in film. It’ll be fun to see those results.

And after Christmas begins the countdown to Spring!

Julianne Celebrates Her 5th BirthdayTuesday, December 8th, 2009

The holiday season is family time – and it is so nice to have family that lives locally. When I first moved to Utah my family continued moving around the country for another 8-10 years. Now that my family has started to settle down in Utah it is a lot of fun to hang out with them.

My niece, Julianne, celebrated her fifth birthday and she had a fun time with uncles, aunts, nana, papa, and cousins. I of course brought my camera – I think my mom and sisters have given up taking their own photos and leave that duty to me. And of course I love it.

And even though it isn’t a wedding cake – it still is a chance to photograph a cake. My sister said she was cheating by putting stickers of princesses on top of the cake – but it tasted great. Kudos to my sister Melanie for all her hard work.

Check out the full gallery of birthday photos on SmugMug.

A Day of ThanksgivingThursday, November 26th, 2009

Thanksgiving – it’s like Christmas – in November! And it really is a most excellent holiday. My family gathered down at my parents’ house in Orem, Utah for dinner. My brothers from Arizona were able to come up with my nephew and niece. We were only missing 2 brothers – one in North Carolina (Paul) and one brother serving a Mormon mission in Taiwan (Jonathan – he returns home next month).

What am I thankful for this day? Family. It is a lot of fun to have the family gather under one roof and just hang out. With 5 grandkids in the house it can be quite noisy. And it is my job to photograph and document the family. So I hope you enjoy some photographs of my family. The full gallery of photographs are on my SmugMug page.

There was a lot of potato making – I think at one point everyone was involved in peeling the potatoes and making sure they were ready for the mashing. Even my dad helped out – because he had a gadget that would help out.

Yes, I know that cranberry sauce in a can is probably not the classiest thing on the menu. This stuff is good though – it had whole cranberries – not just the cranberry paste that was so popular in the “old days.” I feel so old as I reminisce, lol. But having had sooo many Thanksgiving dinners in so many different locations – including the Philippines and Puerto Rico – it is the memories with families that we cherish the most.

To distract the kids we did go on a walk (run) around the block. Henry had to run to keep up with everyone else. And he liked to stop and look at things. And as uncle with the camera I had to take the photos.

Little Girl Holds Balloons at Pre Wedding

Let’s be honest – a wedding and the wedding celebration for the is for the Bride. It is the bride’s special day. You dream about it as a little girl. And a good photographer can photograph everyone having fun and still photograph the bride and groom.

Here is a photo of one wedding attendee enjoying some balloons she found. I think she is more interested in the what the person with the camera is doing. But I am sure she had fun at the wedding and began to dream of what her wedding day will be.
