Wedding Rings on the sands of Newport BeachThursday, March 18th, 2010

While everyone is eating I grabbed my macro lens and my flash and took photos of last Saturday’s wedding in Newport Beach. I captured some really cool photos of the rings and I figured I might as well write a blog post about just the wedding rings. Yes I will be blogging photos from the wedding and their engagements but I will start with the wedding rings.

And the color of the wedding was purple and sand provided a complimentary color and some fun props for the wedding rings.

Bridal Shower CupcakesFriday, February 26th, 2010

Last night I dropped by a bridal shower to photograph some of the details for a local Salt Lake magazine. They wanted a few people shots and some detail shots. So today I share a cupcake photograph from Mini’s Retro Cafe – these look so good! Maybe I can see why some people have cupcakes at weddings.

Rihanna couldn’t have said it better when she sang the Umberella song. This wedding party shows off the umbrellas available at the Wolf Creek Canyon Wedding. It wasn’t raining – but more a fashion statement and wedding details.

This photograph is just asking for a musical number…

Non Traditional Wedding CakesWednesday, January 13th, 2010

I often find myself on the side of tradition. I do like a layered cake with frosting and flowers. Today weddings are seeing more and more cupcakes, cheesecakes, and maybe even a pie for the wedding cake. Ok, I haven’t seen a pie – yet. But you never know what the new year will hold in the way of photography.

This cheesecake played the feature in a recent cake cutting and cake smash.

Dried flowers make awesome wedding detailsMonday, January 11th, 2010

I love capturing wedding details – and wedding flowers are often the defining detail that captures the feeling of a wedding. These flowers at a fall Rose Sachs wedding were some of my favorites of the 2009 wedding season. They were all dried flowers and in wine glasses.

I certainly happy I was able to be the second shooter for this wedding. If I am not busy on a Saturday or a Sunday I love to find another photographer who will let me tag along and photograph for them.

I can’t imagine the amount of work or what goes into creating these flowers. And the bride had a handmade dress by her sister – so you know that the planning and detail was extraordinary.

Weddings are saving the wedding one pigeon at a timeSunday, January 10th, 2010

It is always fun to tackle myths and legends – such as the myth that rice thrown at weddings will kill pigeons and other birds. And I will start some conspiracies of my own at the same time.

It was Ann Landers who started the myth that uncooked riced cause birds to explode – and according to snopes.com – this is false. Why would people continue this myth? I believe it is because the rice is messy to clean up. And many wedding reception locations don’t want to clean up rice after a wedding.

So weddings will often celebrate with bubbles, sparklers and in the case of this photograph – bird seed. What better way to not explode birds (except at the waist line)?

Wedding Cake WednesdayWednesday, December 30th, 2009

I was flipping through wedding photographs through the past year and I rediscovered a wedding cake from a wedding at My Noah’s. Maybe at a later date I will post a blog post which shows the cake being assembled.

But I have been thinking how weddings are a huge team effort – and the team may not realize they are part of the team. Everyone works independently – and the photographers usually take credit. The florists should get credit for amazing floral arrangements and bouquets, bakers and cake decorators should get credit for the wedding cake creations. And then there are the wedding dresses, the location and much more.

And the photographer takes amazing pictures – often with the attitude that the wedding couldn’t happen without the photographer. I don’t want that kind of ego. However, this was a gorgeous cake.
