Desserts & Drinks – Yum!Monday, February 28th, 2011

I’ll confess – these two photographs are not from a wedding. However, I’m sharing them here since most weddings have some form of dessert and often will have some kind of beverage (alcoholic nor non-alcoholic). Photographing these details is a lot of fun and can be a challenge for some photographers. Making food look good is an art form and when I am at a wedding it is all about finding the right light or creating that light to show off the details.

Weddings are expensive! From dresses, tuxedos, flowers, food, locations, and more – the only thing that will survive the wedding day will probably be the wedding photographs. So I go out of my way to capture the food, drinks, decorations and more. And since I don’t photograph weddings every day I do take the chance when photographing other events to treat it as if it is a wedding and I capture details in such a way that they could be in a magazine. (who doesn’t want to be published – even if magazines are a dying medium)

I have made a number of updates to the website! Yay! Some new buttons, a new headline banner, some buttons at the end that are “call to actions” such as Contact Me, Pricing, and check out the Galleries. So to celebrate I picked a random bouquet to feature as the photograph of the day. Yay!

I will keep working on my website overtime – I want to make sure the content is fresh, that I blog regularly, and that the site is easy to use and serves as a great marketing tool.

Wedding Rings for the New YearThursday, January 20th, 2011

Photographing wedding rings is really a fun job for me. It can be a challenge to find a little location at a wedding venue that is unique to the wedding. I will try to photograph the wedding rings with the flowers for the wedding, the bouquet, perhaps the wedding cake, the decorations and maybe even just some of the textures of the building.

In this case I used the mini Christmas trees that decorated the tables – this particular tree was behind the wedding cake. A wedding photographer has to have a macro lens. You might be able to get away using some other lens or close up rings but you need a good macro lens. Fortunately, I have the amazing Canon 100mm f/2.8 IS macro. That bad boy is sharp as a tack!

I also use an off camera flash setup so the lighting is fully controlled by me. I usually won’t use natural light unless there is a compelling look I can create. This photograph may not make it to the wedding album. There is another photograph that has a more sentimental use of the wedding rings. I won’t share that photograph for now – maybe I will when I show off the wedding album.

So brides, be ready to had over your wedding ring while you and your new husband are eating – don’t worry – your rings are in good hands and they will look amazing after their own little photo shoot.

And be sure to have some beautiful wedding details so they act as a backdrop to the photographs.

Wedding Rings on the sands of Newport BeachThursday, March 18th, 2010

While everyone is eating I grabbed my macro lens and my flash and took photos of last Saturday’s wedding in Newport Beach. I captured some really cool photos of the rings and I figured I might as well write a blog post about just the wedding rings. Yes I will be blogging photos from the wedding and their engagements but I will start with the wedding rings.

And the color of the wedding was purple and sand provided a complimentary color and some fun props for the wedding rings.

Bridal Shower CupcakesFriday, February 26th, 2010

Last night I dropped by a bridal shower to photograph some of the details for a local Salt Lake magazine. They wanted a few people shots and some detail shots. So today I share a cupcake photograph from Mini’s Retro Cafe – these look so good! Maybe I can see why some people have cupcakes at weddings.
